Generate a pixel character from editable parts

This pixel art generator focuses on square character portraits. The editor draws a face, hairstyle, expression and outfit on a 32 by 32 pixel grid, then enlarges the finished artwork for a 256 by 256 PNG download. The starting visor and transparent background make it convenient to imagine the portrait on a game interface or in a small creative project.

Choose this tool when you want to assemble a character from visual options. For a landscape, photograph, logo or other existing image, use the linked image-to-pixel-art converter instead. The character editor is not a freehand drawing canvas, text-to-image AI system or animation maker. Its strength is quick customization and predictable, crisp pixel shapes that you can export immediately.

How to make your character

01

Choose the character silhouette

Start with the hairstyle, then decide whether the visor belongs in your design. Spiky hair gives the initial character a strong outline, while a buzz cut or bob creates a simpler shape. Check the face at the smaller preview size so accessories do not dominate the expression.

02

Build a readable game palette

The initial character uses blue hair with a dark outfit. Change the skin, hair and clothing colors to fit the scene where you plan to use the portrait. Preview a solid background while evaluating contrast, then restore transparency if the final composition needs it.

03

Export and prepare the artwork

Download the PNG when the character is finished. Use the pixel art resizer for larger hard-edged output, or the pattern maker for a printable grid. Those tools continue from an exported image; this editor does not create a moving sprite sheet or a full-body character.

Ways to use your finished PNG

Game portrait placeholders

Use a static pixel face in a dialogue box, player card or character selection mockup. The transparent starting background makes it easier to place the portrait over your interface. Check the final dimensions required by your project before using the downloaded image in an engine.

Pixel avatars for creative communities

A game-inspired face can work as a profile picture for an art account, server or development diary. Choose a distinctive silhouette and keep the expression readable. Save a solid-background version too if you need an avatar that stands alone in a profile tile.

Handmade pattern starting points

Export a simple character and open it in the pixel art pattern maker to inspect a grid and color inventory. Reduce the palette before making a physical project, and review small details such as glasses or mouth pixels to decide whether they translate clearly into your craft medium.

Questions about this tool

Can this pixel art generator turn a photo into pixels?

Use the separate image-to-pixel-art converter for uploaded photographs and other existing images. This page generates editable pixel face characters from hairstyle, expression, accessory and color controls.

Does the download include a sprite animation?

No. The output is one static square PNG portrait. You can use it as a starting visual in a game or design project, but movement frames and full-body sprites require additional artwork.

Can I keep the background transparent?

Yes. This entry starts with transparency selected. The downloaded PNG retains transparent pixels outside the character. Choose a solid color from the background controls if you prefer a self-contained image.
